When construction started in the late 1920's The Poplar was designed to match the luxury of  similar pre-war buildings in NY, Philadelphia or Chicago.
The lack of air conditioning at the time meant the design called for exposure to cross ventilation wherever possible.  Most units have windows on three sides.  Today that design element gives some of the best light and views in the city.
